Punakiki was a quite interesting place with dramatic rock formations, water spouts, lots of loafing seals, and (rumor has it) penguins in season. After checking out all that, we signed up to rent some kayaks to paddle, wade, and get dumped upstream in a nearby river - cruising downstream went much smoother. Then we headed down the coast through Hokitika, staying in a motel near Whataroa.

Next day, we headed over Haast Pass early in the morning for our all-day adventure on Fox Glacier. (Don't ask what happened to my cool new Canon SD450 in the rain.)

On to Te Anau and the Milford Track, by way of Queenstown, where we stopped to explore a few of the sites used in the Lord of the Rings movies.
