A great butterfly trip, and our first visit to Africa, from April 20-May 5, 2024 with Ashanti African Tours. Bit of a nightmare getting there after a 5-hour delay got us into Dallas too late for our connecting flight to London. Rebooked a flight to London later that night, but then spent 24 hours in London before flying to Accra, Ghana a full day later than originally planned. Ashanti African Tours readily accommodated us, rearranging our tour to essentially cover the original itinerary in our shortened schedule. Even better, we were thrilled to find that their top butterfly guide, Andrew Amankwaa, had chosen to lead our trip and modified it to basically do it in reverse of the original itinerary (avoiding overlap with another larger group). Along with our excellent driver, Ben Frimpong, we spent the next two weeks visiting most of the good butterfly spots in southern Ghana, seeing (and photographing) a good number of species along with getting a delightful introduction to Ghanian culture. All but a few of my photos were taken with a Sony RX10iv and post-processed with Adobe Lightroom. This overview page has pictures of things other than butterflies from the trip, while the next page has photos of some of the butterflies seen on the trip.
