In Ang Khang, we stayed at the most comfortable Angkhang Nature Resort. One of the evenings we were there, I noticed what seemed to be UFO-like lights rising in formation in the night sky. Closer examination through my binoculars showed them to be sky lanterns (khom fai in Thai); very cool little hot-air balloons released during celebrations such as New Year's. Day trips from Ang Khang took us right up to the border with Myanmar, where we had our first opportunity to purchase souvenirs from these hill tribeswomen.
