Arriving in Shanghai at midnite, the 34 of us, including what would become known as "The Gang of Six", met our incredible tour guide, Lily, who would accompany us for the entire trip, keep us (and our luggage) from getting lost, smoothed our way while showing us her country, and grew to become a close friend to all of us.
Our local guide, Sonny, introduced us to China and the city of Shanghai, a fast growing cosmopolitan center, quickly becoming a major financial center. Quite different from the rest of China, we spent a few days here visiting the White Jade Buddha Temple, gardens, the historic Bund district, and an interesting pearl factory. A couple of us went to visit Tongji University one morning, an interesting visit, but unfortunately the pictures of it got deleted.
