A 3000 mile road trip from June 11-19, 2022 in search of butterflies in Oklahoma,
Kansas, and Missouri turned up close to 70 species including 8 new lifers.
Hot and humid with a few ticks and chiggers, but good for butterflies
(and a treat coming home to find the monsoon had arrived in Albuquerque).
Some of the best spots for butterflies on the trip included J. T. Nickel Family
Nature and Wildlife Preserve in Oklahoma, Ha Ha Tonka State Park and Runge
Conservation Nature Center in Missouri, and the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve in Kansas.
Life butterflies included:Gray Copper, Swamp Metalmark, Gray Comma, Gorgone Checkerspot,
Baltimore Checkerspot, Bell's Roadside-Skipper, Arogos Skipper, and Byssus Skipper.
